The Poetry of Muhsin Ilyas Subaşı

Erciyes

Erciyes, the first rays of dawn glint off your brow

to lift my heart away to the oceans

You hold the sad lament of Kerem in your bosom

Oh, now end his suffering, Erciyes!

In winter like a while tulip, in summer like green gauze

You, the hennaed nightingale that perches in my heart

Even if you cry for Asli, come and smile with me

Bring back my beloved to reunite with me, Erciyes

If you cared to, you could rend me in pieces and stab me

If you so wished, you could embrace me with your compassion

Take me, hide me, tear me away from myself

Lay me down in the wind at your summit, Erciyes...

With the fire that has burned in your heart for years

With the heat that churns in your ancient summit

This burning blaze that is purified by my love

Come and take over my heart, Erciyes!

Alnında şafağın ilk parıltısı,
Gönlümü ummana götür Erciyes.
Göğsünde Kerem’in hüzünlü yası,
Artık bu çileyi bitir Erciyes!

Kışın beyaz lale, yazın yeşil tül,
Sen, gönlüme konan kınalı bülbül.
Aslı’yla ağlarsan, gel benimle gül,
Vuslatı gönlüme getir Erciyes

İster böl, parçala, bıçakla beni,
İster şefkatinle kucakla beni,
Beni benden kopar, al, sakla beni,
Zirvende rüzgâra yatır Erciyes…

Yıllardır bağrında yanan ateşle,
İhtiyar başında dönen ateşle,
Sevdâmla yıkanıp, yunan ateşle,
Gel de yüreğime otur Erciyes!...
